Our relationship

ZAB × Apex A long-standing Canadian partnership.

Jeff founded Apex Coffee Imports in 2016, the same year as Zab! We met a few years later and very quickly started buying our Ethiopian coffees from him.

Back then, it was a tiny company, and Jeff was super hands-on, approachable and generous with his time. He'd text us directly from origin whenever he came across lots that might interest us, and we've always had excellent coffees thanks to him.

A few years ago, Apex merged with Origine 117, which also owns the coffee company St-Henri, and Julie became a co-owner in the process. At the time, Julie was the green buyer at St-Henri; she's also an OG of the Montreal coffee scene and a genuine wealth of knowledge who's really cool to work with. And in French, on top of that!

In 2023, we travelled to Colombia with them, and it was an extraordinary and enriching trip. There we met Francy Castillo and her whole crew, who we've been doing business with ever since! Apex is especially strong on origins like Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala and Ethiopia.

Who is Apex

The importer From Canada, to 11 producing countries.

Founded in 2016 by Jeff Fleming, Apex Coffee Imports grew out of a realization during a trip to Colombia in 2012: to bring small producers and Canadian roasters closer together. Today, the company works directly with farmers and exporters in 11 countries and imports their coffees into Canada, from its offices in Montreal and Calgary.

A small, versatile team — Jeff Fleming (sourcing and sales) and Julie Audet (co-direction), among others — Apex is built on quality, transparency and traceability. A member of the Canadian group Origine 117, it's part of an ecosystem dedicated to high-quality coffees.

Sourcing, services and impact

"Foster positive relationships." — Apex Coffee Imports

Apex selects and imports green coffees from small farms and cooperatives across eleven countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia — quality micro-lots and blends, for artisan and commercial roasters.

The company supports producers in the face of market trends and adjusts its purchasing to keep importing the best beans, despite fluctuations. At the heart of it all: lasting relationships, from producer to cup.
