About this Coffee

Allan Melgar's legendary coffee is back! For the second year running, it continues to impress. This micro-lot delivers a creamy cup with grape notes, a bright acidity, and a rounded chocolaty body. The sweetness shines through both as espresso and as filter. As an espresso, pulling a longer shot brings out a very fruity aromatic profile, almost like grape juice. On the other hand, a shorter extraction (around 32 g) gives you the perfect base for a milk-based drink.

Allan Melgar is a third-generation producer who works side by side with his father, Fernando, on their 28-hectare farm near Casillas, Guatemala. In 2022, Allan decided to break new ground and explore the natural process, far from common in Guatemala. The result was an explosive micro-lot that Semilla, the coffee importer, was thrilled to purchase. Since then, Allan has never looked back. He keeps pushing his drying techniques, refining his style, and allowing us once again to put this incredible coffee in your hands.

Allan and Fernando are also pillars of Café Colis Resistencia, a bold movement created by Alex Reynoso to support Xinka coffee producers from Mataquescuintla. These farmers, often left on the margins, fight for fair prices, market access, and technical resources. The Melgars, from their privileged position, provide vital economic support to this community, embodying a spirit of solidarity and innovation. Their story reflects both the challenges and the hopes of a sector marked by structural inequalities, as well as the promise of a future where small producers and indigenous farmers can thrive through fair and sustainable practices.
