Mujeres de Berruecos is a blend, made especially for us, sourced from small farms led by 32 women coffee growers, nestled on the outskirts of the town of Arboleda. It comes to us from the Proyecto Berruecos initiative led by coffee producer Francy Castillo, who collaborates with farmers in her region to support and improve their practices as well as the quality of their production.
These female farmers work meticulously, employing all their expertise to cultivate, harvest, and process their coffee beans in a way that fully reveals the richness of the terroir and the complexity of the natural aromas. Each producer employs a unique washing method, giving this blend an unparalleled singularity, thus offering a soft and complex aromatic profile in the cup.
The Proyecto Berruecos involves visits to the farms of the producers to understand the needs of the community, to provide technical assistance where producers receive advice on issues related to specialty coffee, as well as tools used daily in their field work. Francy Castillo has also established a center where she receives producers and purchases their coffees, replacing a failing market. This project contributes to the integral and sustainable development of the coffee industry by promoting quality, environmental preservation, inclusion, and competitiveness for the benefit of producers, youth, and women in the community.
It's a delicate and sweet cup that gives the impression of drinking grape juice. It's one of those coffee that goes down easily. Its simultaneously digestible and floral qualities make it a truly pleasant coffee. As an espresso, its texture is syrupy with a nice acidity. The lingering taste hints at a mix of nuts, but its flavors are of grape and apricot.
