Originally from San Sebastián, Lempira, Martha Lícida is the oldest of 14 children. Her father Pastor Vásquez and her mother Amelia Melgar were both grain farmers. For many years, her parents tried to send her to school, but she always ended up dropping out without even finishing her first year. Therefore, they decided that she would stay home and help them with the farm and household chores.
Since she was a child, Martha has always been interested in business. She learned to make bread, candies, lollipops, and other traditional sweets, which she would put in a basket on her head and go around the village selling them.
In 1987, she turned to agriculture and bought her first piece of land in San Sebastian. Since then, Martha has acquired several other plots of land and has become involved in coffee production. Since the exporter Bon Café reached out to her and helped her, she has greatly improved her coffee growing and processing techniques. As a result, the quality she delivers each year stands out compared to other producers of the same region.
